Our Staff

Our StaffSusan Enowitz, Executive Director, is a native Californian, and has lived in Coronado since 1999. She has her MA in Anthropology from the Universidad de las Americas, in Cholula, Puebla, Mexico. Her experience working with museums has been through the San Diego Museum of Man, 16 years as the Education Coordinator; a Board of Directors for the California Association of Museums; the Western Museum Association; and on the Education Committee of the American Association of Museums. In 1996 she received the Education Award for Excellence from the American Association of Museums. She has had five Kellogg Fellowship grants for the study of museum practices and was a Fulbright Foundation Fellow in Peru. She consulted to the Price Charities on the feasibility of the successful "School in the Park," a program in which 3-5th graders at Rosa Parks Elementary spend one-third of their school year studying in the institutions in Balboa Park. In addition, Susan worked in the technology industry as an executive recruiter with software companies in Southern California.

Mary Galu Gartner, Museum Store Manager, Having grown up outside the gates of West Point on the Hudson River,Mary has now been a resident of San Diego for thirty years. She was an Art major in New York and continued her studies at SDSU. She has spent many years in the food and beverage industry and has owned two restaurants in San Diego. Mary has a contagious work ethic, and fabulous customer service skills. She comes to us from the San Diego Historical Society Museum Store.

Rachel Lieu, Archivist and Registrar, was born and raised in the Mid-West and came to California when she was 17. She graduated from UC Santa Cruz with degrees in both Literature and Art History. Not wanting to begin graduate school or a career right away, Rachel set out for a bit of adventure after college and moved to Viet Nam. Working with the Ford Foundation through Volunteers in Asia, she studied Vietnamese and taught English for two years. This year she finished her MFA in Exhibition Design at Cal State Fullerton and got married.

Katherine Matlack, Visitor Center Manager, was born in Santa Monica, and raised in Santa Barbara County. She headed up the coast to attend UC Santa Cruz and UC San Francisco where she earned her BS degree in Nursing. She worked as an RN in obstetrics in the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to San Diego County's South Bay thirty years ago. She comes to the Coronado Visitor Center after many years of experience in volunteer management, sales, customer service, and tourist information in Balboa Park for San Diego Junior Theatre.
